it really is the nicest painting

You may disagree, but i honestly think this is the nicest painting i've seen in a really long time, it appeared on a pizza box lid in our house, and despite it's clear commercial application, it feels like a really lovely translation of someones idea of having a genuinely wonderful time. with pizza. In the background you can see a bit of a mural of Yuri Gagarin I dun recently, doesn't seem to look too great in photos though, think i need a proppa camera for this one. Oh yeah and at the top is a nice painting of a horrible man, Vlad Dracul no less!

Emigration Journal

I've chanced upon some letters written by distant distant relatives emigration to australia in the 1850s, they make pretty interesting reading so i'm in the process of abridging them, with the end goal of presenting illustrated excerpts as 3 pages of my next newspaper zine. The idea actually got me thinking about making a zine using primary sources as the only written content, I've always found social history really engaging and it would be nice to present voices from the past in an accessible format. Above is a silly preliminary sketch...

Felix

Felix was great back in day, he was fuzzy and inky, he drank constantly and always got the last laugh.

Free Range Installation

Last week we had our degree showcase at Free Range. I presented my Oil Slick newspaper and a looping animation based on the stories of AUCB fine artist Lizzie Latham, with a little bit of set dressing to evoke a coherent universe for these media to exist in.
Almost forgot to take pictures though! Thank the good lord my Dad saw fit to take these when I wasn't looking, it could use a bit of preening but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth (i just did).
Here's a low-res version of the animation too. It looked really nice on the old transistor telly, lovely and flickery.

bozza

Still a while to go but with the London mayoral elections in 2012 it would be good to start thinking about posters to get my 2 pence across when the time comes (clue; not rooting for this guy).

badical panels

Back to something significantly more garish than i've been doing recently but pretty fun regardless. I'm pleased with the semi 3d effect, tres satifying.

some final major bits

Looking to make a newspaper now I reckon.

Thursday 25 February 2010

Strip in progress. I've tried to create a claustrophobic repetition with the split frames, for now the black white balance is a bit off but when it's finished i'd like to see it printed on newsprint like a 20's strip.

heres an Ed Rusha style panel for a new strip I'm working on. I don't know if it could really be printed properly though...
